New Year, New Possibilities

It's hard to believe that Winter is just around the corner, isn't it? Where has the time gone?

Yet, the change in the season can be a good reminder about the changes in the seasons of our lives, and for the poets among us, in the seasons of love*. Change sometimes feels like a slow and gradual process, and it can also feel like an experience of chaos, with all the variations in between. Although this may sound counter-intuitive, chaos is a place of possibilities: it's the place where the 'things' - the people, relationships, coping mechanisms, beliefs, etc. - that used to give us a sense of stability and control are no longer available or sufficient. A new element was inserted into our reality, and the strategies that we know seem inefficient, causing unpredictability and uncertainty. That is a rich place to be in, despite the stress and the emotional pain that we may experience. There is openness to new learning in that place. Growth can happen, because there is new awareness, and inner resources as well as those coming from outside can be accessed. New ways of being can be integrated, helping us find new alignment within ourselves, as well as with the people and the context that we live in. That is very exciting. In fact, it is both a joy and a privilege for me to support dozens of brave and beautiful clients everyday, as we explore together the possibilities that exist for them and their families. Virginia Satir, a pioneer of family therapy, once said:

“I want you to get excited about who you are, what you are, what you have, and what can still be for you. I want to inspire you to see that you can go far beyond where you are right now.” May you make space for new opportunities within yourself now and in the New Year - to see and to be seen under a new light.

P.S.: "Seasons of Love" is also the title of a song from the Broadway show Rent.
